Turkmenistan has teamed up with the International Trade Centre (ITC) to establish an online trade facilitation portal in the country under the Ready4Trade Central Asia project funded by the European Union. One of the first steps to that end was the organization of a technical training held on 19-28 October. This training, the fourth run in a series of online capacity-building activities in Central Asian countries, follows the successful online pilot trainings organized in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

Through the new EU financed programme ‘COVID-19 Response in Africa: Together for Reliable Information’ International Media Support (IMS) has established an emergency support mechanism aimed at helping public interest media in Africa, including Eswatini, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through this rapid response mechanism, International Media Support offers small grants that allow the recipients to continue their work in the short term and hopefully weather the immediate crisis.

Today the European Union together with the Minister of Health and the WHO launched a joint “Mongolia COVID-19 Crisis Response” project. The European Union is providing support of EUR 1 million and WHO is providing EUR 62,000 and technical guidance to Mongolia’s health sector and beyond over the course of three years as a complement to the national preparedness plan for COVID-19.

The EU, EU Member States, and Norway and Switzerland have announced the deployment of a European Diplomatic Watch, composed of over 70 teams which will cover over 1,000 polling stations in Georgia during the parliamentary elections on Saturday, 31 October.


Today, the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council reached a political agreement on reinforcing the EU's Enforcement Regulation. The changes agreed will empower the European Union to protect its trade interests despite the paralysis of the multilateral dispute settlement system in the World Trade Organization (WTO). The Commission will also be able to act if similar problems arise in bilateral agreements.
