ALMATY – On 25-26 September, around 70 Kazakhstani IT students and specialists took part in the EU Ecohackathon competition in Almaty to develop the best clean tech solution for resolving climate issues. The event was organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Kazakhstan within the framework of the EU Climate Diplomacy activities and EU-Kazakhstan cooperation on education, science, research and innovations.

I continue to follow the situation in the north of Kosovo closely. Serbia and Kosovo need to unconditionally de-escalate the situation on the ground, by immediately withdrawing special police units and dismantling of roadblocks. Any further provocations or unilateral and uncoordinated actions are unacceptable. 

Speaking at the Global Citizen Live event, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the European Union is pledging €140 million to support research in sustainable food systems and tackle food hunger via CGIAR, formerly also known as Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research, and a further €25 million for Education Cannot Wait, a global fund for the education of children in emergencies and protracted crises, in particular girls, children with disabilities, minorities and other marginalized children.

In my many bilateral meetings, my main priorities have been EU-US relations, the Iran nuclear deal and Afghanistan. In each case, we need to speak with a clear EU voice.

Viola von Cramon arrived in the Baghdad International Zone a little past midnight after a long trip from Europe. A few hours and an early morning briefing later, she is already in the car for the first meeting. It is the beginning of four intense days with back-to-back meetings and briefings in Baghdad and Erbil as well as two press conferences. The German member of the European Parliament visited Iraq not as a politician but as the Chief Observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM), currently deployed in Iraq to observe the 10 October parliamentary elections.
