The 3rd ASEAN-EU Cooperation and Scholarships Day 2020 will be organised virtually on 13-14 August 2020

Latest naval mobilisations in Eastern Mediterranean are extremely worrying. They will not contribute to finding any solutions. On the contrary, they will lead to a greater antagonism and distrust. Maritime boundaries must be defined through dialogue and negotiations, not through unilateral actions and mobilisation of naval forces. Disputes must be solved in accordance with international law. The European Union is committed to help solving such disputes and disagreements in this area of vital security interest.

As we mark the International day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the EU extends its solidarity to all indigenous peoples around the world at a time when their health, lives and livelihoods are endangered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Con motivo de la celebración del Día Internacional de los Pueblos Indígenas del Mundo, la UE extiende su solidaridad a todos los pueblos indígenas del mundo en un momento en que su salud, su vida y sus medios de subsistencia se ven amenazados por la pandemia de COVID-19.

Indigenous Peoples have been socially, economically, politically and judicially excluded for centuries. The unbalance puts them at a greater risk in the current challenging international landscape. On the Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, the EU extends its solidarity to all indigenous peoples. The EU is acting on the ground to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 and calls for global efforts to protect indigenous peoples.

Un premier lot d’équipements pour lutter contre la pollution marine a été acheminé par avion cet après-midi depuis l’île de la Réunion. Le Directeur de l’Antenne de la Région Réunion à Maurice, M. Grégory Martin était sur place pour réceptionner le matériel. La Réunion a également dépêché un expert de la Direction de la Mer sud océan Indien (DMSOI) et un officier de liaison qui resteront sur place pendant la durée des opérations afin d’appuyer les autorités mauriciennes.

The EU welcomes the peaceful and democratic conclusion of the electoral process in Guyana and congratulates President Irfaan Ali on his swearing-in. This is an important step towards the consolidation of democracy in the country.

It is essential now that all parties and stakeholders work together diligently to overcome past differences and join efforts in uniting all Guyanese. The EU takes note of President Ali’s inauguration speech, where a commitment to constitutional and electoral reforms was made, and looks forward to its implementation.

8 August is ASEAN Day. The EU and ASEAN have now been partners for more than 40 years and – as the world’s two most advanced regional blocs – we have been cooperating on many fronts.
