On behalf of the European Union I am honoured to participate in the thirteenth trade policy review of Japan and would like to welcome Japan's Delegation, led by Mr Uyama (Deputy-Director General, Economic Affairs Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and the Discussant, H.E. Mr Braithwaite (UK), for his introductory words. Japan is an important strategic and economic partner of the European Union and a key player in the global trading system. We highly value the good cooperation between the EU and Japan.
Today, on International Women's Day, the European Commission is publishing a call for proposals on "Women & Sustainable Energy" making €20 million available for grants to implement activities promoting women's entrepreneurship in the sustainable energy sector in developing countries.
