High Representative Federica Mogherini attended the monthly European Parliament plenary in Strasbourg on Tuesday 12.  She took part in five debates with the Members of Parliament, including on the recent EU-Cuba political and cooperation agreement, on the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and on the implementation and review of the EU-Central Asia Strategy.

The Supreme Court of Belarus has confirmed the death sentence against Mr Henadz Yakavitski, which had already been handed down by the Minsk Regional Court in January 2016.

The European Union condemns the use of the capital punishment in all cases. It fails to act as a deterrent and is a cruel punishment, representing an unacceptable denial of human dignity and integrity.

The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia has committed itself to promoting the rule of law and fighting impunity. Against this background, today's decision by President Ivanov on the pardoning of a number of officials raises serious concerns. It comes at a time when all parties should be seeking ways to preserve the Przino Agreement.
We call on all sides to avoid interventions that risk undermining years of efforts within the country and with the support of the international community to strengthen the rule of law.
