Good morning everybody. We are ready to start in a few minutes the informal ministerial meeting here in Riga under the Latvian Presidency that I would like to thank for the excellent and very efficient and politically wise cooperation.
The E3/EU+3 Political Directors and Iran met on 5 March in Montreux for a one-day meeting in continuation of their ongoing diplomatic efforts to find a comprehensive solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. The meeting was preceded by various bilateral meetings of members of the E3/EU+3 with Iran, with the participation of EU Political Director Helga Schmid, from 2nd to 4th March.
The meetings were constructive and useful. Some progress was made and a better understanding on some of the issues emerged.
Today, a Moscow court rejected another appeal from Nadiya Savchenko against her illegal detention by the Russian Federation, introduced in reference to her immunity as a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted a decision earlier today in Strasbourg by an overwhelming majority calling for her urgent release.
Aujourd'hui, un tribunal moscovite a rejeté un nouveau recours de Nadia Savchenko contre sa détention illégale en Fédération de Russie, qu'elle avait formé en invoquant l'immunité que lui confère son statut de membre de l'Assemblé parlementaire du Conseil de l'Europe. À une majorité écrasante, le Comité des ministres du Conseil de l'Europe a adopté ce matin à Strasbourg une décision demandant la libération sans délai de Mme Savchenko.
Six months have passed since the abduction of Estonian police officer Eston Kohver by the Russian Security Services on Estonian territory, in violation of international law. He continues to be illegally detained in Lefortovo prison in Moscow. He does not receive adequate legal aid, has been deprived of the right of fair proceedings and has been ordered to undergo unfounded psychiatric examination, the details of which remain unknown.
