The European Union joins the United Nations Security Council in condemning the intrusion by fighters of Houthi movement Ansar Allah into the compound formerly used as the US Embassy in Sana’a, and the continued incarceration of Yemenis currently or formerly employed by the United States and United Nations there. We call on Ansar Allah to leave the compound, stop arrests and detentions and release all detained immediately.  

The EU condemns the threats and harassment targeting current and former staff of diplomatic and international missions in the country.

The health condition of Zhang Zhan is rapidly deteriorating, while she remains imprisoned. Ms Zhang has suffered, among other, from severe malnutrition. The EU urges China to take all necessary measures to ensure that Zhang Zhan receives urgent and adequate medical treatment, and is granted access to her family members, and lawyers of her choice.

On the occasion of the visit of the Costa Rican Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Christian Guillermet Fernández, the European Union (EU) and Costa Rica held a fifth round of annual Bilateral Consultations in Brussels. The meeting took place in a hybrid format with a virtual connection to San José and was co-chaired by the Vice-Minister Guillermet Fernández and the Managing Director for the Americas of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Mr. Brian Glynn,

El Representante Especial de la Unión Europea para los Derechos Humanos, Eamon Gilmore, viajará a Colombia y Brasil del 22 de noviembre al 3 de diciembre.

The European Union Special Representative for Human Rights, Eamon Gilmore will travel to Colombia and Brazil from 22 November to 3 December.
