Delegation of the European Union to Hong Kong and Macao is based in Hong Kong. It is the diplomatic mission of the European Union [EU]. Its role is to promote the interests of the EU and to build ever closer ties between the EU and Hong Kong, and between the EU and Macao.

The cooperation between Hong Kong and the EU is substantial and continues to grow, in part because Hong Kong provides a key channel to mainland China.

My name is Marie - Anne Coninsx, and I am the Ambassador of the European Union here in Canada.

On 9 May 1950, Robert Schuman, the French Foreign Minister at the time, gave a memorable speech making the case for a new model of political and economic cooperation for Europe. Each year, the EU institutions celebrate this by organising activities on or near 9th May, the anniversary date of the Schuman Declaration.

Forty years ago the EU made a commitment to Malawi to help in reducing poverty and support sustainable development. Since that time we have seen Malawi changing. It has established a multiparty democracy and sustained peace both internally and with its neighbours. It has made progress in a number of areas of human development. The EU has been a partner on your way to progress.

Over the past year, drought has affected more than 6.2 million people in the Caribbean, especially in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
