Digital issues are a part of the European Union’s positive policy agenda: internally – within the Digital Single Market, and externally, as a key element of the European approach to development. The European Digital4Development policy adopted by the European Commission in May 2017 aims among others to streamline the potential of digital technologies in delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals. The European Commission is working closely with stakeholders, such as the African Union Commission, on this issue. The aim of the debate is to discuss the developments of the digital economy in Africa and how to boost the cooperation between Europe and Africa to fully exploit the potential of digital technologies for the benefit
of developing countries.

The European Union co-hosted today in Geneva the 'Humanitarian Conference on the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)'. On this occasion, Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides reiterated the EU's support in response to the worsening humanitarian situation in the region, with contributions worth €77 million in emergency and development assistance to the DRC crisis.
