Today, the President of Azerbaijan has pardoned 148 people, including representatives of political parties, NGOs and journalists, to mark the Novruz holiday.

This is a positive development which we have long awaited and which was discussed during my visit to Azerbaijan on 29 February.

Israel's decision to declare 234 hectares near Jericho in Area C of the West Bank as state land is a further step that risks undermining the viability of a future Palestinian state and therefore calls into question Israel's commitment to a two-state solution. While this decision had already been announced on 25 January, it now appears that the land being seized has been considerably expanded. Any decision that could enable further settlement expansion, which is illegal under international law and an obstacle to peace, will only drive the parties to the conflict even further apart.

The European Union (EU) has officially commissioned a Ksh 90.8 million (800,000 Euros) project in West Pokot County that will benefit more than 135,000 people. The ‘Advocacy, System Strengthening and Capacity Enhancement for Nutrition Transformation’ (ASCENT) project covers November 2015 and May 2018.

Today High Representative Federica Mogherini  met with alumni of the Erasmus + programme, the EU exchange programme for students from around the world, to discuss the priorities for the EU's Global Strategy for foreign and security policy.Mogherini – an Erasmus alumna herself – explained the new Strategy will focus on "human security" in times of great uncertainty and change: it will address traditional security issues but also development, human mobility, climate change and human rights.

European Union Head of Delegation to Uganda, H.E Ambassador Kristian Schmidt and Netherlands Ambassador to Uganda H.E Alphons Hennekens, representatives from German and Dutch development banks KfW and FMO, and local dignitaries graced the launch of the $19million--10megawatt solar photovoltaic plant.
