Chief Observer Miroslav Poche, a member of the European Parliament (MEP), bid farewell to 14 short-term observers (STOs) who departed today from the European Union Election Observation Mission’s (EU EOM) headquarters in Banjul to their respective areas of observation across the country. STOs will primarily observe the proceedings on election day as well as the tabulation of the results. Around Election Day the EU EOM The Gambia will comprise up to 50 observers drawn from European Union member states, as well as Norway and Switzerland.

The Ministry of Education concluded the first annual Budget Review Meeting of the School Sector Development Plan (SSDP) on March 31st 2017. During the four-day meeting, the Government and the school sector Development Partners reviewed the progress of SSDP implementation and the assurance of adequate budget provisions for its implementation in the upcoming fiscal year. The Government’s 7-year SSD Plan is supported in the first five years (2016-2021) through a Joint Financing Arrangement with nine development partners.

Recalling the Council Conclusions of 23 May and 17 October 2016 and the European Council Conclusions of 15 December 2016, the Council is appalled by the continuing dire situation in Syria and the persistent humanitarian, security and political issues arising from the conflict. 13.5 million Syrians are now in need of humanitarian assistance inside Syria including 6.3 million internally displaced, 1.5 million living under siege conditions, and a further 5 million Syrian refugees hosted by its neighbours and the wider region.

يذكر الاتحاد الأوروبي بمخرجات مجلس الاتحاد الأوروبي بتاريخ 23 أيار و17 تشرين الثاني من العام 2016 بالاضافة إلى مخرجات المجلس الأوروبي بتاريخ 15 كانون الأول 2016، وعلى ذلك فإن المجلس منزعج جدا إزاء استمرار الحالة المأساوية في سوريا والقضايا الانسانية والأمنية والسياسية المستمرة والتي نشأت بسبب الصراع. هناك الآن 13.5 مليون سوري بحاجة إلى المساعدات الانسانية داخل سوريا منهم 6.3 مليون نازح داخليا و1.5 مليون يعيشون تحت ظروف الحصار و5 ملايين لاجئ سوري آخرين تم استضافتهم من قبل البلدان المجاورة والمنطقة.
