The European Union and the Kyrgyz Republic held the sixth round of their Human Rights Dialogue in Brussels today.

Last month, actually less than one month ago, we met in Luxembourg with the Foreign Ministers and the Interior Ministers together, just a few hours after the latest tragedy in the Mediterranean Sea. It was the first time after quite some years – I think the last one was in 2012 – that we have had a joint meeting of Defence and Foreign Ministers.

For the second time in a week, Kabul has come under a terrorist attack this morning: a number of civilians, including a member of the close protection team of the EU Police Mission in Afghanistan, have been killed.

My deepest sympathy goes to the family, friends and loved ones of our colleague and of all other innocent victims

The Afghan Government needs to ensure that those responsible for the attack are brought to justice.
