Anne Marchal, Ambassador, Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Congo

Message from the Ambassador Anne Marchal

Mboté (Hello)

Congo Anne Marchal

Dear Internet users,

Thank you for visiting the website of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of the Congo. Through this page, I am pleased to introduce myself and to share the main priorities that will guide my mandate as Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of the Congo.

First and foremost, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Congolese authorities and to all my interlocutors for the warm welcome extended to me since my arrival in the country. Supported by the dedicated and dynamic team of the Delegation, and drawing on many years of professional experience, I am fully committed to further strengthening the longstanding partnership between the European Union and the Republic of the Congo — a partnership that dates back to 1963.

This relationship is rich and multifaceted. It is built on development cooperation, maritime security initiatives, trade and cultural exchanges, as well as political dialogue. I invite you to explore this website to discover the many projects and activities carried out in support of the Congo’s socio-economic development and the well-being of its people.

At the beginning of my mandate, I wish to place particular emphasis on young Congolese people — their aspirations, opportunities and role in shaping the future. At the same time, I attach great importance to the revitalisation of the high-level partnership dialogue provided for under the Samoa Agreement, which now constitutes the framework for relations between the European Union and the member countries of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States, including the Republic of the Congo.

In this regard, I remain attentive and open to proposals from the Congolese authorities to further deepen our cooperation and dialogue.

One of my personal priorities will also be to travel throughout the country, to discover its diversity, as well as its cultural and natural richness. The European Union has long been present across many regions of the Congo — from Brazzaville to Pointe-Noire, from urban centres to forests and national parks — through social, economic and infrastructure projects, including regional initiatives implemented under the Global Gateway strategy and through the “Team Europe” approach alongside EU Member States.

These visits will provide valuable opportunities to engage with local communities and authorities while gaining a deeper understanding of this remarkable country.

I warmly invite you to follow my journey in the Republic of the Congo through this blog, where I will share highlights of my activities, reflections and personal discoveries.

Anne MARCHAL
