Federica Mogherini will host Western Balkans leaders for an informal meeting in Brussels


The European Parliament's Sakharov Fellowship offers up to 14 human rights defenders selected from non-EU countries the opportunity to follow a two week intensive training in Brussels and the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation in Venice.

It has been organised annually since 2016 further to an initiative taken by the Sakharov Prize Network at the 25th Anniversary Conference of the Sakharov Prize.

On this day, 70 years ago, the Member States of the United Nations came together to adopt the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. This step brought the world together after the greatest tragedy in human history. We have come a long way since then.

Mr Reinhard Priebe visited Skopje from 5 to 7 December. Mr Priebe headed the group of senior rule of law experts to assess the situation of rule of law in 2015 and 2017.

The purpose of this visit was to follow-up on the implementation of recommendations made by the group regarding judicial reforms.

Mr Priebe had meetings with stakeholders and government officials in the justice field in order to assess progress made and advise the authorities about delivery of tangible results.
