EUROPA Human Rights Award in Honduras
This award marks a public act to acknowledge those who promote, defend and protect human rights in Honduras, sometimes anonymously and invisibly. It seeks to recognize and highlight the work of men, women and organizations defending human rights, in support of their legitimate work and the contributions they make to democracy and the construction of peace in Honduras.
The promotion and defense of human rights are part of the foreign policy priorities of the European Union and its Member States. This award reaffirms support for human rights defenders in Honduras, so that they can continue their work, promoting and recognizing their efforts and positive impact on society as a whole.
The EUROPA Human Rights Award in Honduras will be granted on 10 December, on the occasion of Human Rights Day. The award-winning defender will receive a trip to Brussels, where he/she will have the opportunity to visit the European institutions that defend European values such as human dignity, freedom, democracy and the rule of law. The visit will take place in collaboration with the European Union Visitors Program (EUVP) when health and safety restrictions allow.
The selection of the winner will be based on the person/NGO’s courage to promote the protection of human rights through their positive example and impact on the lives of the most vulnerable groups of population.
