High Representative/Vice President Mogherini meets with President of Moldova Igor Dodon

High Representative/Vice President Federica Mogherini met today with Igor Dodon, President of the Republic of Moldova, to discuss the latest developments in the country and the need for implementation of crucial reforms.

In this context, Federica Mogherini underlined the European Union's expectations for Moldovan authorities to take forward coherent and collective work in implementing key reforms, as tangible and continued progress here was vital in order to resume the full range of EU support.

In particular, the High Representative highlighted that progress is needed when it comes to the reform of justice, fight against corruption and depoliticising of institutions, for the benefit of the people. Following the peaceful transition of power in early summer, the EU released some budget support payments and is currently assessing the fulfilment of conditions for macro financial assistance, but the EU support continues to be based on tangible progress.

Federica Mogherini appreciated the commitment of the government and the President to address the reforms and challenges ahead.

The High Representative and the President also discussed regional issues.
