I spoke today to Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin ahead of tomorrow's summit between the European Union and Ukraine in Kyiv.

We discussed the issues on the agenda, including the ongoing reform process as well as the situation in eastern Ukraine.



The sentence of seven and a half years imprisonment and a further three-year ban on holding public office handed down to prominent human rights lawyer Intigam Aliyev by an Azerbaijani Court is a further demonstration of the increasingly difficult  situation faced by human rights defenders in Azerbaijan.



"After searches of the Crimean Tatar ATR TV premises and attacks on its journalists in the past weeks, ATR TV has been taken off air. Other Crimean Tatar media outlets have also reportedly been forced to shut down. This constitutes a blatant violation of the right to freedom of expression and is part of a wider pattern of persecution and intimidation of the Crimean Tatar community.
