The right to respect for family life is guaranteed under the European Convention on Human Rights. Parents should have the possibility to obtain custody of their children and contact them. At the same time children should have the right to stay with their parents. As the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights bears testimony, the best interest of the child is one of the guiding principles for cases of family dispute resolution.
Le droit au respect de la vie familiale est garanti par la Convention européenne des droits de l'homme. Les parents doivent avoir la possibilité d'obtenir la garde de leurs enfants et d'être en contact avec eux. De même, les enfants devraient avoir le droit de rester avec leurs parents. Comme en témoigne la jurisprudence de la Cour européenne des droits de l'homme, l'intérêt supérieur de l'enfant est l'un des principes directeurs dans les cas de résolution des conflits familiaux.
Recalling the Declaration by the High Representative on behalf of the European Union of 11 September, the EU once again reiterates that the 9 August Belarus Presidential elections were neither free nor fair. The European Union does not recognise their falsified results. On this basis, the so-called ‘inauguration’ of 23 September 2020 and the new mandate claimed by Aleksandr Lukashenko lack any democratic legitimacy.
22/09/2020 - On Tuesday, I was in Ukraine for my first visit as High Representative. The frontline in eastern Ukraine has been calm for almost two months now, the longest period since the war started. Since 2014, the EU has been the strongest partner of Ukraine. Our support will continue but is also linked to the urgent need to enhance the rule of law and develop the fight against corruption.
