The Ambassador expresses understanding for the disappointment of citizens and politicians with the outcome of the European Council meeting, at which North Macedonia was not set a date for opening membership negotiations, but stresses that enlargement remains a strategic priority for the EU. The Union will continue to work with and support the country while going through internal discussions in the next months about changes in the enlargement policy. Requests for changing methodology are in line with our common aim to see better results in the enlargement process. Eventually, candidate countries will also benefit from this adjustment – there might be more predictability and certainty in the process. It was good to hear all political leaders reaffirming their commitment to the EU future and reform. Opening of negotiations is a symbolic act, it is important, but it alone does not change people's lives. It is the reforms that improve healthcare, education, judiciary and economy. Let's all focus on making the real change, says Žbogar in the interview.
