The EU marks the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime. Paying homage to the victims will always be needed to acknowledge their suffering, and also to remind us of what we must collectively defend to prevent it from happening again.
Disability is an issue that concerns everyone. Any of us could develop a disability throughout our lives resulting from illness, genetic disorder or accident. Today we observe the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This reminds us to promote the full and equal participation of persons with disabilities and to take action for their inclusion in all aspects of society and development.
Six United Nations agencies and departments (UNEP, UNDP, UNHABITAT, PBSO, DPA and DESA), coordinated by the UN Framework Team for Preventive Action, have partnered with the European Union to help countries identify, prevent and transform tensions over natural resource as part of conflict prevention and peacebuilding programmes.
