2018 is the EU-China Tourism Year. In mid-July, during the high-level EU-China meeting in Beijing, it was agreed that the two sides would promote the related activities under the 2018 EU-China Tourism Year banner so as to boost tourism and the cultural exchange.

The theme of the 2018 "Dreams of Europe and China" Children's Art Exhibition is therefore "Voyage of Discovery". The theme prompted scores of children from several European countries to join the programme. The young artists from Bulgaria, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Spain and Italy showed their vision of an imaginary Chinese cultural trip. The Chinese kids from Liangshan Sichuan, Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai, Yantai, Qiongzhong and other cities of Hainan, Jiangsu, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Handan Hebei and Cangzhou on the other hand projected on paper how they see the beauty of Europe.

On 23 August 2018, a guided introduction of the exhibition was held in Chaoyang Park, Beijing. The exhibition was opened in early August and can be visited until 31st August.

The current art exhibition is the third such one held at Chaoyang Park Ocean Beach Festival. Since 2011, the exhibition has been held in several cities in China and abroad. This is the third exhibition in this year following Changchun and Yantai. According to the plans, there will be displays in Changbaishan in the next month, in Kunming and Qingdao in October, in Lanzhou in November and in Shenzen in December.
