The meeting provided the opportunity for the EU and Iran to look at progress in the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the international agreement reached last year on Iran’s nuclear programme under Mogherini’s chairmanship.

Both sides reiterated their commitment to the full implementation of the agreement. They also stressed the need to keep up momentum and ensure that the JCPOA works for all the parties.

Mogherini and Salehi discussed the perspectives created by the JCPOA and the importance of having the necessary conditions in place for opening up the Iranian business environment to European investors.

They welcomed progress achieved in bilateral cooperation in several fields as laid out in the joint statement adopted on the occasion of Mogherini’s visit to Teheran in April.

The High Representative and the Iranian Vice-President also discussed the ongoing crises in the region. They underlined the importance of a stable and secure region, and the need to take steps towards a more constructive regional environment.
