Large ceremony with the participation of global leaders

The funeral of Pope Francis held on 27 April was a very moving ceremony where we said goodbye to a global leader who was committed to human dignity, solidarity, multilateralism and the fight against food insecurity and climate change. It was a diplomatic ceremony at the highest level, to pay tribute to a very important sovereign, who at the same time was the head of 1,4 billion Catholics in the world. It was also a geopolitical moment of reconciliation in search of a just and lasting peace, in the spirit of Pope Francis. The EU Ambassador was honoured and pleased that the European Union, after 55 years of diplomatic relations, was strongly represented by the President of the European Council, António Costa, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, the HR/VP Kaja Kallas and the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Antonella Sberna. Also Péter Magyar, Member of the European Parliament participated and many other MEPs were part of the EU delegation.
