Acclaimed ABC Radio National Journalist Hamish Macdonald Wins 2024 EU-Qantas Journalist Award

Internationally recognised political and international affairs journalist Hamish Macdonald has been awarded the 2024 EU-Qantas Journalist Award.

 

ABC Radio National Global Roaming host Hamish Macdonald has been awarded the 2024 EU-Qantas Journalist Award in a ceremony at the National Press Club in Canberra.

Previously named Young Journalist of the Year by the British Royal Television Society in 2008, Macdonald has been recognised internationally for his live coverage of issues such as the Georgia-Russia war, China, the Indo-Pacific, and the Middle East.

Macdonald’s submission stood out from an strong field of candidates for his multifaceted and multimedia approach to telling Europe’s important stories to Australian audiences.

His proposal demonstrated a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the current issues facing the Europe, including the political, financial, and global realities it must handle in the increasingly complex international environment.

As the winner of the 2024 European Union – Qantas Journalism Award, Hamish Macdonald will have his name permanently inscribed on the honour boards at the National Press Club, along with a unique opportunity to further enhance his professional development through a sponsored trip flying Qantas business class to the European Union.

It is hoped that through this invaluable experience he will gain firsthand insights into the complex dynamics of EU affairs which will allow him to provide informed insights to the Australian audience and broaden his perspective as a senior journalist.
