Strengthening Democracy and Respect for Fundamental Human Rights of Prisoners in Liberia

The project is implemented by Liberian NGOs Serving Humanity For Empowerment and Development Foundation (SHED) and Rural human rights activists program (RHRAP) with an EU Contribution of Euro 750,000 over a total cost of EURO 797,398.

The project seeks to increase knowledge and awareness on detainees’ human rights throughout local dialogues, engagement with national stakeholders and through gender sensitive approach. It collaborates with four correctional institutes in the counties of Bong, Nimba and Margibi looking at improving living conditions of inmates, support health services as offering legal support. It supports the internal management through capacity building, improvements of working condition and towards new models of sustainability for the institutes.

Vocational training towards rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates in the communities is also at the centre of the project, with tailor training successfully ongoing and new activities to be developed.

The project duration is 36 months — from 4th January 2021 to 3rd February 2024.

Youth Rising - EU Support to Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) for Young People in Liberia

The TVET project is implemented by UNIDO with the total budget of Euro 25,300,000. Overall, the objective of the TVET project is to enable Liberian youth to respond to economic growth opportunities by increasing their employability and entrepreneurship potential. The beneficiaries are youth attending public TVET institutions at secondary level education. In Liberia, 1/3 of the population is aged between 15 and 35. Furthermore, 1/3 of young people are unemployed and most of those who are employed occupy low skilled and unskilled jobs. From 2018 to 2024 the TVET project seeks to help about 5,565. Young Liberians acquire skills that will help improve their lives.

Monrovia Consolidation of Electricity Transmission and Distribution

The Monrovia Consolidation of Electricity Transmission and Distribution aims to contribute to the reduction of poverty in Liberia through increased access to electricity

For the first time since the Liberian conflict ended, about 38,000 homes in Monrovia and its environs are expected to be electrified through the Monrovia Consolidation of Electricity Transmission and Distribution project. With the total cost of the project is 52 000 000 Euros, the project seeks to build and provide transmission and distribution systems, which are lacking at the moment. Between 2016 and 2025, 2,100 street lights will be installed in the major streets of Monrovia. The Monrovia Consolidation of Electricity Transmission and Distribution is also training about 40 engineering students (both males and females) of the University of Liberia and Stella Maris Polytechnic.
