Border Management Programme in Central Asia: regional kick-off meeting on regional border cooperation
On 9-10 December 2021, the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA), funded by the EU, held a regional kick-off meeting on cross-border cooperation: best practices and outlook for Central Asia.
Opening the ceremony during the event held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan on 7 December 2021, the EU Ambassador to Turkmenistan Diego Ruiz Alonso said:
"The European Union is betting on cooperation in Central Asia as a way of strengthening border security, trade facilitation and living conditions in the region. The European Union promotes regional integration and wants to share with its partners in Central Asia the experience and lessons learned during the process of building of Europe. Since 2003 to 2020, the European Union invested more than 42 mln euros in its most important regional project in Central Asia - BOMCA. From 2021 to 2025 the European Union will invest additional 21.5 mln euros as a proof of its commitment to the development and the future integration of Central Asia."
