Get to know the Delegation of the European Union to Iraq: our mission and our team.

What we do

The European Union Delegation in Iraq represents the EU as a diplomatic mission and works in close coordination with the 13 EU Member State embassies present in Baghdad and their missions in Erbil, in the Kurdistan Region. It performs the functions of the EU Presidency in both Baghdad and Erbil, ensuring the coherence and coordination of EU external action throughout the country.

As the EU’s permanent and principal interlocutor with the Iraqi federal authorities, the Kurdistan Regional Government, the international community, and other key stakeholders, the Delegation plays a central role in fostering dialogue and maintaining strong bilateral relations. It monitors and supports engagement across a wide range of areas, including political affairs, economic cooperation, trade, energy, and development.

The Delegation is a key instrument for promoting EU interests and values in Iraq. It stands at the forefront of the EU’s external action, delivering policies and initiatives that span the Common Foreign and Security Policy, trade and cooperation, education, and cultural relations.
