European Union Concludes Successful Two-Day Mission to Nepal
26 May 2026
The two-day high-level mission of 22 European Union (EU) Member States’ Ambassadors to Nepal, led by H.E. Véronique Lorenzo, EU Ambassador to Nepal, concluded today with a meeting with the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister Balendra Shah. During the meeting, the EU Ambassadors congratulated the government on its sweeping electoral victory and reaffirmed their support to the agenda of the government, focused on good governance and economic growth. The EU and its Member States reiterated their commitment to advancing bilateral and multilateral priorities and highlighted the importance of people-to-people relations. In his intervention, the PM expressed his government’s wish to enhance cooperation with the EU and its Member States and recalled the decisive mandate it had received to deliver real and visible services to the people of Nepal.
Earlier in the day, the Ambassadors engaged with entrepreneurs and private-sector leaders from the manufacturing, FMCG, energy, tourism, and technology sectors. The discussions centred on collaboration and investment opportunities for EU companies in Nepal. They also met with civil society leaders to discuss freedom of expression, press freedom, and human and women’s rights.
In a separate interaction with tourism entrepreneurs, co-hosted by the Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) at The Dwarika’s Hotel, the Ambassadors explored opportunities and challenges in Nepal’s tourism sector. The discussions highlighted ways to promote Nepal as a year-round premium destination for European travellers.
At a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, EU Ambassador Lorenzo stated,"The EU’s partnership with Nepal continues to grow stronger. Our productive dialogue with government, private sector, civil society, and youth leaders have shown us the vast opportunities ahead. #TeamEurope is ready to work hand-in-hand with Nepal to address challenges like job creation, sustainable growth, and inclusive development for the benefit of our citizens."
