歐盟與台灣之間的整體關係相當穩固，雙方有著緊密的經貿關係。這一點，從台灣是歐盟在亞洲第四大貿易夥伴，以及歐盟是台灣第四大對外市場可見一斑，而歐盟更是台灣最大的外資來源。
雙方的交流不僅於商業，也針對技術研究、資訊社會、教育和文化、漁業、環境、氣候變遷、智慧財產權和標準與規範等方面，多有著墨。
每一年歐盟與台灣，更會就彼此關心的議題進行協商。2003年歐洲經貿辦事處在台成立，為歐盟在台辦事處。另外有16個歐盟會員國，在台北設有辦事處。
