On this day, five years ago, Boris Nemtsov, former Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and one of the leading figures of Russian opposition, was brutally murdered in the heart of Moscow.
Boris Nemtsov worked fearlessly, despite numerous obstacles, to promote democratic values and political pluralism in Russia. He remains an inspiration to many, at a time when civil society and independent media in Russia are increasingly constrained, and freedoms curbed by restrictive legislation.
His murder should be investigated fully and in a transparent manner, to ensure that all those involved in this crime are held accountable.
