Council Conclusions

On 20th June 2016, the European Council adopted Conclusions on Business and Human Rights highlighting also access to remedy, building on the Netherlands Presidency Conference in May and marking the fifth anniversary of the adoption of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs).

The EU embraces the UNGPs as the main comprehensive framework providing the international community with the tools to address human rights violations by business; their implementation supports and promotes human rights, and is good for all.

The Council Conclusions recall Member States’ commitment to developing and adopting National Action Plans including access to effective remedies. The Council also adopted separate Conclusions on Child Labour, reconfirming its strong commitment to the elimination of child labour.
