From 30th to 31st January 2019, the Chairman of the European Union Military Committee (CEUMC), General Claudio Graziano, attended the informal meeting of the 28 EU Defence Ministers, held in Bucharest by the Romanian Presidency and chaired by the High Representative, Madame Federica Mogherini.

The two working days started with an important session on women, peace and security (WPS), a field where the European Union and its Member States have been intensively working since many years, in close coordination with international partners, mainly the United Nations (UN) and NATO.

During the second day, the EU Ministers discussed the way ahead on European defence, taking stock of the most relevant issues, with the view to further consolidating and bringing forward the existing EU defence initiatives, in particular the Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) and the European Defence Fund (EDF).

"Pleased to attend a frank and concrete discussion on fundamental issues of common interest" stated the Chairman at the end of the meeting.
