The presidential election in Mali has been a crucial step in the life of the country.
All parties must now complete this electoral process in the calm and responsible spirit shown so far, while awaiting the announcement of the final results by the Constitutional Court. Any challenges to the results must be made peacefully and through the legal channels set up for addressing grievances.
Together with its national and international partners, in particular the African Union, ECOWAS and MINUSMA, the European Union’s Election Observation Mission, headed by Ms Cécile Kyenge, Member of the European Parliament, has played an important role in enhancing the transparency of the electoral process in a security context that still gives cause for concern. The Election Observation Mission will remain in Mali until the final results have been announced and will subsequently publish a final report with recommendations for improving the electoral framework.
The EU reaffirms its commitment to peace, stability and development in Mali – challenges that require a collective effort on the part of all Malians.
