Statement on the attacks on Christian churches in Surabaya, Indonesia
Text
The European Union extends its condolences to the friends and families of those killed in the three separate bomb blasts today at Christian churches in Surabaya, Indonesia, and expresses its best wishes for the recovery of those injured.
Attacks on communities at prayer run counter to Indonesia’s traditional culture of religious diversity and inter-religious harmony. Such a culture is a source of inspiration for many around the world, especially in times, such as now, of tension.
The EU will continue to cooperate closely with Indonesia in it its efforts to counter terrorism and radicalisation. We stand in solidarity with the Indonesian authorities and people at this time.
