Miguel y William is directed by Ines Paris, a romantic comedy which tells of a meeting between Shakespeare and Miguel Cervantes and their rivalry for the woman they both love.
The Manila leg at FDCP is ongoing until 11 December 2016. First Secretary Jerome Riviere of the EU Delegaiton to the Philippines, First Secretary Guillermo Escribano of the Spanish Embassy and Ms Joanne Angeles, PR Head, Film Development Council of the Philippines will inaugurate the festival at FDCP, Manila.
The FDCP has been a long-time friend and partner of Cine Europa but this is the first time that Cine Europa screens in the newest FDCP premises in Kalaw, Ermita, Manila.
Now on its 19th year, Cine Europa is the longest running festival in the country, with the largest potential to reach large audiences as it screens in a variety of venues from theaters to malls and to universities throughout the country. It is the last leg of Cine Europa and is widely followed as a film festival in the Philippines.
As part of the anniversary of 25 years of the EU in the Philippines and to celebrate the partnership between the EU and the Philippines, the overall theme of this year's festival is "Friendship".
Cine Europa has thrived throughout these 19 years because of the friendship and long-standing relationship between the EU and the Philippines.
The film festival showcases 24 films from across the European Union and Norway, and also includes the Filipino film "Of Sinners and Saints" .
Cine Europa is presented by the European Union Delegation to the Philippines, the EU Member States' Embassies and Consulates, the Embassy of Norway, and the Cine Europa partner organisations from the private sector, academe and government agencies.
Cine Europa has earned a niche among film lovers because of its strong partnership and collaboration with institutions like the Film Development Council of the Philippines, Arts Council of Cebu, Ayala Center in Cebu, the University of the Philippines-Visayas in Tacloban, the Visayas State University in Baybay Leyte Liceo de Cagayan in Cagayan de Oro City, Palawan State University and Shangri-La Plaza.
