The Diplomatic Service of the European Union

The proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) is a major risk to international peace and security. The development or acquisition of such weapons entails grave security risks, be it from State actors, for example in the form of new arms races, or from non-State actors as an existential terrorist threat.

The European Union is expanding its diplomatic presence in the Gulf with the opening of a new EU Delegation to the Sultanate of Oman, marking a new chapter in relations with one of the EU's key regional partners.

As the threat from violent extremism is ongoing, fighting terrorism is one of the top priorities for EU member states and its partners.

Joined in Brussels by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk and former prisoner of war and human rights activist Maksym Butkevych, High Representative Kallas announced that the European Union will intensify its efforts to strengthen support for Ukrainian civilians arbitrarily detained by Russia.
