On 14 July, the Belarusian Central Electoral Commission announced that Siarhei Cherachen, Andrei Dzmitryev, Hanna Kanapatskaya, Aliaksandr Lukashenka and Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya were registered to stand in the Belarusian Presidential elections on 9 August.

On July 13, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission Josep Borrell met with Prime Minister of Montenegro Duško Marković. They exchanged views on Montenegro's EU path and the political situation in the country in the run-up to the parliamentary elections scheduled for 30 August.

Today, on the fifth anniversary of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the preservation of the agreement is more important than ever. The JCPOA was concluded on 14 July 2015 and subsequently endorsed unanimously by the UN Security Council (Resolution 2231). It is a historic multilateral achievement for global nuclear non-proliferation and is contributing to regional and global security.

On 13 July, Bahrain’s Court of Cassation confirmed in its final ruling the death verdicts for Bahraini citizens Mohammed Ramadan and Husain al Moosa, sentenced on terrorism charges. This ruling was delivered despite reported concerns on the fairness of the trial.

The European Union reiterates its call from 9 January to halt the execution of Mr Ramadan and Mr al Moosa.
