Around 2,000 women and men are currently deployed to our neighbourhood in civilian CSDP missions under EU flag – working outside of the EU’s borders, providing security at home. The EU and its Member States are now implementing a set of commitments to strengthen the civilian dimension of European security and defence.

El día de hoy en Bruselas, la Unión Europea y México celebraron una Reunión de Alto Nivel sobre Asuntos Multilaterales. Esto ocurre después de la visita de la Alta Representante/Vice-Presidenta Federica Mogherini a México el 10 y 11 de septiembre, cuando se acordó intensificar la cooperación UE-México en asuntos multilaterales.


Today in Brussels, the European Union and Mexico held a High Level Meeting on Multilateral Affairs. This follows the visit of High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini to Mexico on 10-11 September, when it was agreed to step up EU-Mexico cooperation on multilateral issues.


Civilian CSDP missions play a crucial role in the European Union’s work as a security provider, addressing security challenges including organised crime, terrorism and hybrid threats and this way contributing towards the level of ambition set in the EU Global Strategy.

This is a critical moment for Bolivia - a moment when maximum restraint and a strongest possible sense of responsibility is needed, both inside and outside the country. Delicate moments like this require firm rejection of violence at the highest level of statesmanship from all.

Yesterday, a court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Ukrainian citizens Muslim Aliyev, Refat Alimov, Enver Bekirov, Arsen Dzhepparov, Emir-Useyn Kuku and Vadym Syruk to lengthy prison terms. They are accused of belonging to an organisation that is banned in Russia but not in Ukraine. The excessive sentences, ranging from 7 to 19 years imprisonment, constitute the latest targeting by the Russian Federation of Ukrainians from the Crimean peninsula including Crimean Tatars and human rights defenders. 

Today, High Representative/Vice President Federica Mogherini met in Brussels with the Prime Minister of Somalia, Hassan Ali Khayre.

They discussed the strong cooperation between the European Union and Somalia at all levels, from peace and security, to economic development and support for the strengthening of democracy.

Journalist Ahmet Altan, who was kept in detention like many other journalists and representatives of media organisations in Turkey, was re-arrested yesterday, only a week after his release, on the grounds that there was a flight risk. He had not even been served the decision when some media were already reporting on it.
