Under the provisions of the 1990 Framework Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation, the eleventh European Union (EU)-Argentina Joint Commission was held on December 1-2. The meeting was held virtually due to the public health situation generated by the pandemic. The Argentine delegation was chaired by the Undersecretary of Foreign Relations, Ambassador José Luis Pérez Gabilondo, while the EU delegation was headed by the Director for the Americas of the European External Action Service, Ambassador Javier Niño Pérez.


03/12/2020 – HR/VP blog – There has been a lot of discussion lately, and also some controversies, on the concept of strategic autonomy. It is time to clarify what exactly we mean with this concept and how it can help Europeans to take charge of themselves in an increasingly harsh world.

Terrorist attacks across the world, but also in Europe, show the extent of the unabated threat we face from all forms of violent extremism. A strong multilateral partnership is essential to counter effectively such threat, fully respecting human rights and the principles of international law. It is in this spirit that the United Nations (UN) and the European Union (EU) held their third annual UN-EU Leaders’ Dialogue on Counter-Terrorism on 2 December.

Je me suis entretenu aujourd'hui à Bruxelles avec le vice-Premier ministre et ministre des affaires étrangères d'Éthiopie, Demeke Mekonnen. L'Éthiopie traverse une période difficile. J'ai exprimé ma vive préoccupation face à l'augmentation des violences ethniques ciblées, aux nombreuses victimes et aux violations des droits de l'homme et du droit international humanitaire. J'ai également fait part de mon analyse selon laquelle ce conflit est en train de déstabiliser gravement la région.


Today in Brussels, I met with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Mr Demeke Mekonnen. Ethiopia is undergoing challenging times. I expressed my great concern regarding increasing ethnic-targeted violence, numerous casualties and violations of human rights and of international humanitarian law. I also conveyed my analysis that this conflict is already seriously destabilising the region.
