The Prime Minister of the Government of Republic of Yemen, Dr. Muin Abdel Malik, returned yesterday to Aden, the country’s interim capital. This constitutes an essential first step in implementing the Riyadh Agreement signed between the Government of Yemen and the Southern Transitional Council. The presence of the Government in Yemen is a key development. The European Union expects all stakeholders to abide to the terms of the Agreement and display sincere collaboration on the ground to ensure its smooth and timely implementation.

Millions of young people have spread the message of children’s rights in the run-up to the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child - thanks to a joint campaign by the European Union and UNICEF.

During his visit to Rwanda, Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica has announced a €10.3 million support package to the UNHCR's Emergency Transit Mechanism (ETM) in Rwanda, which provides a life-saving avenue out of Libya for people in need of international protection, with a view to their further resettlement. The funding is provided through the Emergency Trust Fund for Africa. This initiative builds on the example of the ETM Niger, through which more than 2,900 refugees and asylum seekers have been evacuated out of Libya since 2017.

This year we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child - the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history that has helped transform children's lives around the world for the better.
