According to reports, the Iranian authorities are about to execute Mr Saman Naseem, who was apparently a minor at the time of the crime for which he has been convicted.

We call on the Iranian authorities to abide by international human rights law, under which the execution of juvenile offenders is a violation of international minimum standards, and not to carry out the execution of Mr Naseem or any other juvenile offender.

A European perspective on foreign and security policy, recent events in Libya, the ceasefire in Ukraine and Europe's relations with Latin America were key issues when EU foreign policy Chief Federica Mogherini visited Spain and Portugal on 16-17 February. It came as part of a pledge she made to travel to all 28 countries in the EU in the first six months of her term in office to discuss the direction of foreign and security policy.

I am happy to be here to chair the Defence Minister's meeting today. I will stay only for a while because afterwards I will be flying to Washington for a meeting on extremist violence and counter-terrorism, where I will have also the chance of speaking with Secretary of State Kerry and some of our Arab partners on the situation in Libya, in particular.

The High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini met yesterday evening in Madrid the Special representative of the UN Secretary General for Libya, Bernardino León.

Mogherini and León discussed the recent dramatic developments and the need to increase the diplomatic work to unite the different Libyan parties in a common effort to face the threat of Da'esh.

They will intensify contacts in these hours to guarantee the appropriate regional and international support to the UN led process.
