Déclaration de la Haute Représentante/Vice-Présidente Federica Mogherini et du Commissaire à la coopération internationale et au développement Neven Mimica sur la signature de l'accord sur le Mali dans le cadre du processus d'Alger

"It is with indignation and deep sadness that I have learnt the news about the brutal murder of Boris Nemtsov, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Russian Federation, former Governor of Nizhny Novgorod and one of the leaders of Russia's liberal opposition. He was killed just before a demonstration against the effects of the economic crisis and the conflict in Ukraine which he was organising for 1 March.

The EU welcomes today's announcement - at a joint press conference by the Government and the HDP - of Abdullah Öcalan's call to the PKK to hold an extraordinary congress to decide to lay down arms in the Spring. 

The Political Directors of the E3/EU+3 and Iran will meet on 5 March 2015 in Montreux to continue their diplomatic efforts towards reaching a long-term, comprehensive solution to the Iranian nuclear issue. The meeting will be chaired by EU Political Director Helga Schmid.
The meeting will be preceded by a series of bilateral meetings of members of the E3/EU+3 and Iran starting on 2nd March 2015.


Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, spoke on the phone today with the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Serbia’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić.

They discussed in particular the ongoing crisis in eastern Ukraine, the need for full implementation of the Minsk agreements and the concrete measures the EU can take to support the challenging work of the OSCE.


I was pleased to welcome the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, in Brussels today. We discussed the progress in our bilateral relationship following the signature of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Georgia in June of last year and the preparations of the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga. The security situation in the region was also an important part of our agenda.

Today's visit of Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici to Brussels, his first visit abroad after taking up office, is an important signal of the Republic of Moldova´s continued political will to pursue close cooperation with the European Union.


Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, held a phone call today with the Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov. 


The conduct of peaceful and transparent elections in Comoros is testament to the progress which the country has made in the democratic process.

The conclusions of the international observation missions have been generally very positive.

The EU contributed to the smooth running of the elections through the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights. It will continue to support the Union of the Comoros in its pursuit of a democratic, prosperous and inclusive future.


The rejection by a Moscow Court of Ukrainian military pilot Nadiya Savchenko's appeal against her pre-trial detention carries heavy consequences, as she has now spent 75 days on hunger strike to protest against her illegal kidnapping in Ukraine and transfer to Russia. Russia bears a responsibility for her very fragile health.

The EU calls on the Russian authorities to urgently release Ms Savchenko on humanitarian grounds.
