L’Union européenne félicite M. Lazarus Chakwera pour sa prestation de serment en tant que président du Malawi. Son élection intervient après une période difficile pour le pays, au cours de laquelle le respect de la constitution a prévalu. Les habitants du Malawi ont participé activement aux élections, démontrant ainsi leur soutien aux institutions démocratiques.

The European Union congratulates Dr Lazarus Chakwera on his swearing in as President of Malawi. His election followed a challenging period for the country, during which the respect for the constitution prevailed. Malawians participated actively in the elections, demonstrating their support for democratic institutions.

All political actors should now show leadership and pursue any disputes by legal and peaceful means in line with the traditions and practice of Malawi.

The ‘Global Goal: Unite for our Future'pledging summit organised today by the European Commission and Global Citizen mobilised €6.15 billion in additional funding to help develop and ensure equitable access to coronavirus vaccines, tests and treatments. The money raised will also support economic recovery in the world's most fragile regions and communities.
