The Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Liberia, Ambassador Laurent Delahousse, and Ambassadors of EU Member States (Germany, France, Ireland and Sweden) on Wednesday paid a field visit to Grand Bassa County where they visited five projects funded by the EU and EU Member States.

Along with Grand Bassa Superintendent Janjay Baikpeh, the team travelled to Wian Town in District number 4 and visited an agricultural and food security development project. During the visit, the Ambassadors and the Superintendent interacted with smallholder farmers.

“I am happy because through this project I can now sell my products, save money and take care of my family. I make up to a thousand five hundred Liberian dollars depending on the harvest,” says Princess Garndeh. 27 years old Princess is one of 119 smallholder farmers and mothers who benefits from the Welthungerhilfe and Concern World Wide project.

Superintendent Baikpeh thanked the Ambassadors for the EU support.  “On behalf of the people of Grand Bassa I thank you. I am impressed with this project. Therefore, I ask you to extend the project to other parts of Grand Bassa. The project is positively impacting the lives of our people.”

Other projects visited by the EU Ambassadors included projects supporting Women Human Rights Defenders and LGBTQI Defenders in Kpanny Town, the Youth Opportunity Center located at the Fair Ground Pavillion and the JR Sister Enterprise in Loveville.

“I did not know my husband’s salary. I was just there to bear children. However, things have changed now, since I entered the human rights defenders network. Thank you Irish Aid. My husband and I are now working together as a team. Now I am able to help and protect other people,” said 50 year-old Marie Flemming, one of the 40 beneficiaries of the Irish Aid funded project for women human rights defenders in Buchanan, which is implemented by Kvinna till Kvinna together with Liberia Women ‘s Network and the Community Healthcare Initiatives.
