The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission, Josep Borrell, spoke today with the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Josep Borrell congratulated the Secretary of State on his appointment and looked forward to working closely with him in the years ahead. They discussed the importance of renewing the EU-US strategic partnership in order to address jointly the pressing global challenges.
The High Representative and Secretary Blinken agreed to work together on strengthening multilateralism and the rules-based global system, an effort facilitated by the welcome return of the United States to the Paris Agreement and the World Health Organization. They also discussed a number of foreign and security policy priorities and challenges.
The High Representative extended an invitation to Secretary Blinken to attend the Foreign Affairs Council meeting at the earliest opportunity.
