This morning the EU Delegation team listened to a presentation of the National Land Information Management System (NLIMS) by CS Lands, Ms Farida Karoney, delivered at the National Survey of Kenya department. Present at the event was also the FAO Country Representative Carla Mucavi.

CS Karoney explained that the process to fully digitise the land registry in Nairobi is currently on course, with plans to extend the digitisation process to the rest of the country by 2022.

EU Ambassador Simon Mordue noted that digitalisation of land registries offers improved land governance and security of tenure which are attractive for both local citizens and foreign investors. He noted, “With many of our development cooperation programmes focused on Agriculture, this is a very welcome development. I congratulate the Ministry of Lands and CS Karoney for all the work that has gone in to realise this process.”

The EU has been supporting the Land Governance programme via FAO with Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, National Lands Commission and nine county Governments since 2016. One of the key activities has been the development of the NLIMS, which is a digitization of land records. We look forward to the switch to the system for Nairobi.
