Today, the Commission Regulation (EU) 2020/1720, allowing processed petfood, other than canned petfood, from Georgia to be exported to and transited through the European Union entered into force.
Through a series of controls and assessments, Georgian authorities provided the EU with assurances that they can comply with the relevant health conditions and sufficient guarantees for the controls they carry out on the production of processed petfood. On this basis, Georgia was added to the list of countries from where processed petfood, other than canned petfood, may be imported into and transit through the Union.
This allows for new export opportunities for the private sector in Georgia, under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement.
