Integrated Africa is a major transformational outcome of the Agenda 2063 of the African Union, and it encompasses, amongst others, free movement of persons, free trade, customs union, common transport market, but also an African common education space.

The African Continental Qualifications Framework Project (ACQF) will contribute to the skilled, adaptable and lifelong learning generation of young people who represent the major hope for the future of the continent.

The ACQF, as a policy instrument, will contribute to: enhance comparability and transparency of qualifications from all sub-sectors of education and training; facilitate recognition of diplomas and certificates; ease African and international mobility of learners and workers; support lifelong learning and quality assurance based on a learning outcomes orientation; promote cooperation and alignment between different qualifications frameworks (national, regional) in Africa and eventually with other frameworks globally.

This project is complementary action to the African Continetal Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) and the Protocol on Free Movement of Persons, Right of Residence, and the Right of Establishment. The Protocol on Trade in Services of the AfCFTA stipulates that "The States Parties shall establish a continental qualifications framework to encourage and promote the free movement of persons".
