Are you a young graduate interested in international relations? Are you curious to learn more about work of a diplomatic mission and how the EU Delegation represents EU interests and values in Japan?

What we offer?

A traineeship of up to 6 months within the Press, Public and Cultural Affairs (PPCA) Section of the EU Delegation to Japan, starting in early May 2020.

The Press, Public, and Cultural Affairs Section acts as the Delegation's spokesperson and is tasked to develop relations with Japan's media and to promote the EU and its policies with the wider Japanese public. It manages theDelegation's networks and is responsible for the Delegation's website and its publications, including the web magazine "EU MAG". It is also responsible for academic, higher education and cultural affairs, and runs a number of large scale education and cultural events such as the European Higher Education Fair, EU Film Days, and the European Literature Festival.

Main tasks:

  • Assistance with the planning and organization of a number of large scale education and cultural events:
    • European Higher Education Fair (May 2020). Tasks will include acting as liaison for exhibitors prior to the event, support of the promotional campaign (outreach to students, universities, active use of social media), assistance in the running of the event on the day, post-event reporting and evaluation
    • Additional tasks for EU Film Days (May 2020) and European Literature Festival (late November 2020) as well as ad hoc cultural activities may also be requested, based on interest and capacity of the candidate.
  • General assistance in PPCA section, e.g. items for social media and support in the planning and running of other promotional events etc.

Qualifications or special requirements:

  • Fluent (or business/working level) English and Japanese (written and spoken).
  • Experience working in a PR/media related environment as well as of project management, and a background knowledge of Japanese society and culture would be an advantage.
  • Eagerness to learn, motivation to work in a team, attention to detail.

Important information

Before applying you are requested to examine the dedicated website as well as the general eligibility criteria for a paid traineeship (Article 8 of the Decision ADMIN(2017)28 – Paid traineeship)

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travel inside the country of residence, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Applications from non-eligible candidates will not be considered. After the evaluation of all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited for an interview. Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidate is not able to present the required documents, his/her candidacy will be rejected.
