The 15th Film Festival of the European Union countries opened in Kaliningrad on February, 14. The Festival is organized by the EU Delegation to Russia, embassies, consulates and cultural institutions of the EU MS countries with support of the Government of the Kaliningrad Region. The main leitmotif of the jubilee festival is love.
Guests could write their wishes on the Tree of 15 Eternal Values, which “blossomed” in the foyer of the cinema hall, and sit on a special EUFF love'ка (лавка/bench).
In her welcoming speech Aleska Simkic, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the EU Delegation to Russia, said: "This year the festival starts on Valentine's Day. It is not by chance. After all, all films of our program are united by the theme of love - be it love for parents, children, nature, music or freedom. And of course, for cinema! <...> Let's continue to support the success of the festival and our love for the magic world of cinema. A world that narrows down distances between peoples and cultures. A world that speaks the language of art that everyone understands!"
Andrey Ermak, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Kaliningrad Region, Dagmar-Maria Hillebrand, Permanent Deputy Consul General of Germany in Kaliningrad, Artem Ryzhkov program director of the Festival, as well as film directors Anu Aun (Estonia) and Veit Helmer (Germany) also attended the opening of the festival.
Around 40 films of both famous and aspiring European directors will be shown at the festival’s permanent venue - Zarya cinema - until February, 29. Viewers can also attend workshops and meetings with filmmakers from Bulgaria, Germany, the Netherlands, Croatia and Estonia.
